Truth and Reconciliation Commission members received in audience by the Senate Speaker

On Tuesday 27 December 2022, the Senate Speaker, Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, received in audience a delegation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) led by its Chair, Ambassador Pierre Claver Ndayicariye.

At the end of the audience, Ambassador Ndayicariye indicated that they had come to hand over to the Senate Speaker the report of the TRC’s activities for the past 4 years.

The President of the TRC explained that this report concerns the Germans, Belgians, missionaries’ arrival period and the management of Burundi by the monarchy.

He also said that analyses allowed them to understand the violence and political crimes that took place in Burundi between 1960 and 1973.

Ambassador Ndayicariye indicated that this report will soon be presented to the Parliament in congress.
